About
Cuan Beo is a community-based not-for-profit organisation established in 2017, with a mission of improving the quality of life, environment, economy, and heritage around Galway Bay.
The organisation was formed by local community members who shared common concerns on the collective demises of water quality, human connectedness between the land and sea, and native oyster fisheries across Europe. Cuan Beo acts on water quality issues through three core underpinning pillars: Environment, Economy, and Heritage. Through physical native oyster restoration, catchment education and outreach, and policy development, Cuan Beo engages catchment communities in diverse ways to improve catchment water quality, connection between people and the natural and cultural heritage of the region, and the native oyster fishery.
